FORD-Kenya National Youth League has unanimously endorsed Tongaren Constituency MP John Murumba Chikati as the preferred candidate for the position of the party’s Secretary General.
Addressing the press on Thursday at the party headquarters in Nairobi, Simba House, National president Chekai Musa and the party youth National league SG Victor Kirui said Chikati was best suited to replace former SG Chris Wamalwa.
This is owing to his vast experience in matters of politics, leadership and loyalty to the party.
The changes come after Wamalwa’s appointment as CAS in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation.
Wamalwa had taken over as the SG from former Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu after the latter fell out with the party leader Moses Wetang’ula following a botched party coup.
Chekai lauded President William Ruto for Wamalwa’s appointment, saying the CAS will use the position to ensure every household in the western region will have water.
“As FORD-Kenya youth we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our president for having honoured his promise and employed several of FORD-Kenya party members and residents of the Western region in Kenya Kwanza government in honour of the pact that we had of 30 percent before last year’s General polls,” he said.
He said they believe that Chikati will work round the clock to revamp the party and ensure it recruits more people and regain its glory.
Kirui appealed to Ruto to appoint more young people to the government.
William Chiveli urged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to recognize the legitimacy of the Kenya Kwanza government before the talks.
He said it was wrong for Raila to say he does not recognize Ruto’s government, yet he wants to engage in talks on matters of national importance.
“As a party that believes in democracy, the rule of law and the Kenyan Constitution we want to ask Mr. Odinga to work under its parameters,” he said.
